Stop everything and run outside—it snowed in Alabama! Notice I’m already using the past tense because the inch or so that fell in Birmingham has already melted. Blink and you probably missed it.
Growing up in Jersey, snow was a given in the winter. Sledding, shoveling, and intense snowball fights were our favorite pastimes from November—March. I still act like a child and run outside to play the second flakes start drifting their way down. We were lucky to have a short-lived but spectacular snowfall in Jersey over Thanksgiving while visiting my parents.

Roller Skate in the heavy snowfall
You have to take what you can get here in Alabama. I actually met someone today who had never seen snow fall from the sky. It’s laughable how everyone freaks out and the entire state runs out of milk and bread, but that doesn’t take away from its beauty. The second I got home I grabbed the dogs, threw on my trail shoes, and went for a run. So here are my “snow storm” pictures to prove it really happened.

Great pictures, Tanya! I’d love to go to New Jersey for a Proper Snow Storm – I am dying to experience one!!
But only if the weather is exactly 32 degrees.
It was great to meet you today!!
Thanks Rachel! There’s nothing better (in my opinion) to waking up to two feet of snow and having nothing to do but shovel, feed the fire, and relax!
It was great meeting you too! Can’t wait for the next event!
I hit the bottom of your post, saw that last photo, and that dog of yours looks like a spitting image of our oldest pup (when he was younger at least, with fewer white hairs on his face). My wife and I haven’t come across any dogs that look like him before. Made us smile.
That is too funny, because I have never found another dog that looks like Moose. We adopted him as a puppy thinking he was a Golden Retriever, but now he’s more of a Golden/Lab/very small dog mix.
Do you have a picture of your pup?
I don’t have any pictures posted of him on my blog yet, but I do have some. I’ve been looking through old photos, trying to find some of him playing in the snow. It looks like our dog (Horton, named after the Canadian donut chain Tim Horton’s) might have more white patches on him than your dog. Horton’s about 70lbs, has fur somewhat like a husky and a face that’s reminiscent of a Corgi. I’ll have to see if I can send a photo your way.
That is an adorable name! Horton sounds much bigger than Moose, is he still short though? I’m so curious to see what he looks like! Moose has exactly four hairs on the very tip of his tail that are white – it’s hilarious!
Loved this post! The pics are awesome – especially the captions.
Thanks Sherri! I’m not sure who had more fun in the snow – the dogs or me. We LOVE throwing snowballs at them and chasing them around while they slip and slide.
That’s awesome! Reading this actually makes me miss the snow… Growing up, we used to go snowboarding at least a few weeks out of the year. Now, not so much. So i haven’t touched snow in such a long time!
I am always missing the snow! I don’t even mind shoveling – I think snow is the most magical thing ever. You need to book a trip to Colorado ASAP and go play!
